The Friday Night Floyd Artisan Market is held every Friday night from 5:00-9:00 pm from late May through the end of October at the Floyd Community Market.

Enjoy a market of artists and craftsmen every Friday night. Floyd area artists and artisans gather to sell their stellar wares. There’s music, food and fun to be had every Friday night!

Campfire with Games for Kids

Claytor Lake State Park presents Campfire with Games for Kids on Friday, September 20, 2019.

Join Claytor Lake State Park rangers as we welcome representatives of the Wilderness Road Regional Museum to our campfire. Enjoy a bit of history and frontier children’s games to play and to compete in for prizes! And, as always, S’mores! Fixin’s and roasting sticks provided.

We offer locally grown and produced foods in a 50 mile radius. Our offerings include eggs, micro-greens, grass-fed beef, pork, lamb, herbs, organic & forged produce, teas, honey, baked goods and fresh cut flowers.

The Radford Farmers Market also has entertainment on most Saturdays. In 2019, if you ride your bike to the market, get a free bike tune-up and meet fellow cyclists with our partnership with New Wheel..

2019 Giles County Muddy ACCE Race

Giles County presents the 4th Annual Muddy ACCE Race on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Glen Lyn Park.

The Muddy ACCE Race is a 5K, 50 obstacle course mud run, designed to drag you out of your comfort zone by testing your physical strength, stamina, and mental grit. It’s not about how fast you can cross the finish line, but if you can get it done. A challenge that emphasizes teamwork, camaraderie, and accomplishing something almost as tough as you are. The Muddy ACCE Race is for participants ages 13 and up.

The obstacles include the Warped Wall, Tarzan’s Trapeze, the Human Ladder, New River Shuffle, and the rope swing! New this year, participants can also look forward to the Copperhead Climb, Feel the Burn and Shock Treatment!

For the kids, 12 and under, we have the Youth Mud Pit and play area open from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. There are no time slots needed. Children must be under the supervision of an adult.

Every registered participant will receive an event t-shirt to prove you attempted the challenge, along with a water bottle and commemorative sticker. Spectators are welcomed to enjoy the village of vendors, food and entertainment.

Competitive heats are available at 8:30 am and 9:30 am with open course slots available every hour starting at 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Sign up as an individual or team (4 or more members)

2019 Appalachian Folk Arts Festival

The Appalachian Events Committee at Radford University presents the 34th Annual Appalachian Folk Arts Festival on Saturday, September 21, 2019 on Heth Lawn on the campus of Radford University.

The Folk Arts Festival features live music, performers, demonstrations of traditional crafts and art including leatherworking, apple butter making, bee keeping, wood turning and blacksmithing throughout the day with a silent auction as part of Radford University’s Family Weekend Festivities. Crafts will also be available for sale.

Silent auction proceeds will benefit the Robert Glen and Cora Green Toney Appalachian Studies Scholarship.

Time: 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Location: Heth Lawn Radford University – Radford

Admission is free and all are welcome.

Chair and/or blankets are permitted.

In case of rain, the festival will be moved inside.

2019 Virginia Tech Police Department Community Day

The Virginia Tech Police Department presents their 8th Annual Community Day on Saturday, September 21, 2019 on the Virginia Tech Drillfield.

Students, employees, and the general public are invited to attend the free event that will include activities for people of all ages and to learn more about the award-winning and nationally accredited police department.

We will host a plethora of first responder equipment displays, Police K9 demonstrations, Carilion Life Guard Medical Helicopter landing, drunk goggle carts to simulate driving under the influence, two obstacle courses, photo booths, the Hokie Bird and other community partners displays. You can also compete in our donut eating contest and the Dunk A Cop water tank.

We will have free pizza, kettle corn and popcorn while supplies last.

Apple Butter Making Day

Cambria Pentecostal Holiness Church presents their Apple Butter Making Day on Saturday, September 21, 2019.

2019 Hokie Half Marathon and 5k

Runabout Sports presents the 7th Annual Hokie Half Marathon and 5k on Sunday, September 22, 2019 starting and finishing at the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.

• 7:20 am: 5K Start

Come to beautiful Blacksburg, Virginia this fall and run with the Hokies! The races feature a great course, fun music with live bands, delicious food, terrific swag and the best finisher medal!

With the first four miles on roads, the next six travel along the Huckleberry Bike Trail before heading back onto roads and bike trails for the final miles. Combined with a ton of live music throughout the course and plenty of cheering along the way, the Hokie Half is one you won’t want to miss!

All finishers of the Half Marathon (including No-Frills option runners) will receive a Hokie Bird Half Marathon Finishers Medal.

Water and Gatorade are provided every two miles, along with a Gu station at mile eight, plus porta potties at several intervals along the course. Join us this fall and earn your Hokie Bird finisher medal and some awesome race swag!

Please remember the Hokie Half Marathon has a four hour time limit for participants. The course will close at four hours (about 18:20 pace per mile). Those who did not finish within the four hour cut-off can still participate in the post race food and festivities, however we will not give out any finisher awards to those who did not finish on time and course support may not be available after 11:00 am.
