2019 Shawsville Independence Day 5k and Kids One Mile Fun Run


• 6:30-7:30 am: Race Day Registration

• 8:00 am: 5K & One Mile Fun Run Starts

This race is sponsored by the Shawsville Ruritan Club. All proceeds help to support running programs as well as scholarships at the local high school. We have tried to keep our entry fees low enough for all to participate. 

Participants can expect fruit, melons, and water refreshments as well as many valuable door prizes. The race is broken down into five-year-span age groups. First through third place finishers in each age group receive a medal.

The Shawsville 5K course is one of the flattest road courses in the area. The course is essentially a simple loop through and around Shawsville. There is one small hill at ~2.5 miles followed by a long gentle downhill to the finish.

2019 Village of Newport July 4th Parade and Celebration

The Community of Newport presents their annual July 4th Parade and Celebration on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Event Schedule:

• 10:30 am: Parade Line-Up

• 10:30 am – 2:00 pm: Ice Cream, Water & Crafts at the Newport Community Center

• 11:00 am: Parade begins

• 11:30 am – 1:00 pm: BBQ Lunch

• ~11:30 am: Hot dogs and Duck Race

The parade starts at 11:00 am and all are welcome to participate. Parade participants should be at the First Christian Church along Rose Road at 10:30 am for the lineup. The parade route follows Blue Grass Trail to the Newport Community Park.

Enjoy ice cream, water and crafts at the Newport Community Center from 10:30 am – 2:00 pm. And, enjoy hot dogs and the duck race at the Newport Ballpark after the parade.

The Newport Community Center will also offer a BBQ Lunch from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm with a suggested donation of $6.00. And there Newport Library will host a book sale. Purchase up to 10 books for $3.00 per bag.

2019 Pulaski County Independence Day Parade

The 2018 Pulaski County Independence Day Parade will be held this year in the Town of Pulaski on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in downtown Pulaski, VA along Main Street.

The parade route will begin at the intersection of Madison and 3rd Street Northeast, then head down 3rd Street to Jefferson Avenue. From there, the parade will turn onto Main Street and finish back on Madison Avenue.

The 2019 July 4th Veterans Remembrance Ceremony sponsored by the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors, the Pulaski County Courthouses Exhibits Committee and the Pulaski County WWI & WWII Commemoration Committee will be held on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Pulaski Theatre.

2019 Town of Blacksburg 4th of July Parade

The Town of Blacksburg and the Mount Tabor Ruritan Club present the 33rd Annual 4th of July Parade with the theme “Caring For The Land” on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in downtown Blacksburg, Virginia starting at 2:00 pm.

Enjoy floats, bicycles, wagons, marchers, walkers, antique and classic cars, race cars, horses, fire engines, scouts, bands, sports teams and more in the annual Blacksburg 4th of July Parade. 

The parade route begins at the old Blacksburg Middle School property at the corner of Eheart and South Main Streets and continues along Main Street ending at Alumni Mall near Virginia Tech’s Drillfield.

The theme of the 2019 parade is “Caring For The Land”. Trophies will be given out for the best theme representation, best youth parade entry and best overall parade entry.

2019 Shawsville July 4th Celebration and Parade

The Shawsville Ruritan Club presents the 42nd Annual Shawsville July 4th and Independence Day Celebration at Shawsville Middle School Athletic Field on Thursday, July 4, 2019.

Event Line-Up:

• 5:00 pm: July 4th Parade on Oldtown Road

• 5:30 pm until Dark: Festivities at the Middle School Athletic Field

• At Dark: Fireworks

Enjoy fun for the whole family! The festivities begin with the July 4th Parade starting at 5:00 pm down Oldtown Road in Shawsville, VA. Cash prizes will be awarded to the best floats, all are invited to march and join the traditional kazoo band and there will also be an Antique Car Show Contest.

The parade will be followed by festivities on the football field including field events, music, food vendors, 50/50 raffle and live auction from 6:00 pm until dark and wrapping up with fireworks at dark. 

The field events include a juggler, face painting, a magician, balloon twister, dunking booth and games. The auction will be comprised of items contributed by local businesses as well as homemade baked goods.

The Blacksburg Parks and Recreation Department and the Town of Blacksburg present the 2019 Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at the Blacksburg Municipal Park starting at 6:00 pm.


• 6:00 pm: Music from The Blacksburg Community Band

• 7:15 pm: Music from The Meter’s Running

• 9:30 pm: Fireworks Show begins

Enjoy live music from The Blacksburg Community Band, under the direction of David McKee, with a concert filled with patriotic music to get you in the spirit of the day along with a limited number of food vendors followed by a performance from local band The Meter’s Running before everyone’s favorite annual Fireworks Show.

Additionally to help with parking, the Blacksburg Transit will operate a free shuttle to the fireworks at Municipal Park. Shuttles will begin at 6:00 pm, departing from the access area beside Goodwin Hall (off Stanger, in-between Goodwin Hall and Perry Street Lot 3), approximately every 10-15 minutes.

Shuttles will operate until the start of the fireworks, then resume after the show has ended; shuttles will depart from the same location passengers were dropped off.

Floyd Small Town Summer: Independence Day Celebration with the Sway Katz

Small Town Summer offers fun for the whole family, including bounce houses, games, face painting and special activities presented by a variety of community organizations. Food will also be available for purchase and benefit the Floyd non-profit Plenty!.

The Sway Katz are a New River Valley based big band playing swing, jazz, funk, Latin and more! Featuring vocals, saxes, trombones, trumpets, rhythm and percussion section, they will deliver a fun, energetic performance and are sure to get the dance floor filled!

The Small Town Summer Event Series is free and open to the public.

Grab your lawn chair and/or blanket. You are also welcome to pack a picnic, but please observe that there is no alcohol allowed in the park.

The park will be open and access provided to the public starting at 6:00 pm on all Floyd Small Town Summer events.

In case of inclement weather, all events will be moved inside Floyd County High School.

2019 Town of Christiansburg Fourth of July Fireworks Show

The fireworks will be launched near the Truman Wilson Property on Peppers Ferry Road starting around 9:15 pm. The fireworks will be launched from a private property, but can be viewed from the New River Valley Mall or Walmart parking lots.

Attendees can park in any available parking spot at either Walmart or the New River Valley Mall. Christiansburg Police will be on site to direct traffic before and after the fireworks show. 

Peppers Ferry Road will remain open, but parking along the sides of Peppers Ferry Road will not be permitted.
